Recep Cetin has been in a high security detention centre since being accused of stabbing Marion Graham and Kathy Dinsmore to death around 60miles from their Kusadasi holiday apartment in August.
During a preliminary court hearing in Izmir, which lasted three hours, the judge agreed to a prosecution request for the suspect to undergo a bone marrow test to determine his proper age.
Cetin, who is the former boyfriend of Marion Graham's 15-year-old daughter Shannon claims he is only 17 but the prosecution believe he is older.
If it is found that he is younger he will be tried in a juvenile court which could mean a much lighter sentence than if he's tried as an adult.
During the hearing the family's lawyer said the accused claimed he was attacked by Shannon's mother Marion and that he defended himself but that he can't remember what happened.
Shannon, who gave evidence in court for one hour, said this crime shouldn't have happened because her mum wanted to take her home.
She also paid tribute saying she loved her mother and was deeply sad over the murders.
The next hearing is due to take place on 22 February.
