Three people have been arrested in relation to an arson attack on a car in the Holylands area of Belfast.

A car parked on Carmel Street was set alight on Thursday shortly after 4.30am, causing extensive damage.

The PSNI and NI Fire and Rescue attended the scene.

Damage was also caused to a number of cars parked in nearby streets during the night.

A 25-year-old man, and two 17-year-old boys were arrested a short time later on suspicion of arson, attempted taking and driving away, theft and criminal damage.

All three were interviewed and released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incidents or saw suspicious behaviour in the area on Wednesday night or Thursday morning to contact them on the non-emergency number, 101.
