The 21-year-old accused of the brutal murder of west Belfast man Francis 'Bap' McGreevy in March 2008 will go on trial on Thursday.
Thomas Valliday, of no fixed abode, denies the murder of Mr McGreevy who was found by his teenage son in his Ross Street home and later died in hospital from his injuries.
No substantial details surrounding the case have been given to the potential jury of eight women and four men by Crown Court trial judge Mr Justice Hart.
He only revealed that Francis McGreevy Jr "discovered that his father had suffered serious injuries ... and as a result of those injuries Francis Emmanuel McGreevy died on the 18th of March."
Mr Justice Hart, who said the trial was estimated to take between six to seven weeks, also revealed that "a large number of people" from the area may be called to give evidence "about the behaviour of the accused Thomas Valliday on the 15th of March".
The jury were then sent home to consider overnight if there was any substantial reason why they should not sit in on the case.
If any problem does emerge the court still has a reserve of ten potential jurors to choose from before the prosecution case against Valliday is opened.
