Three former UDA murals transformed

Three former UDA murals that have been transformed into positive images have been officially unveiled in east Belfast.

The murals in Templemore Avenue, Kebaan Street and Lendrick Street have been converted as part of a community project.

A further 22 murals in the area are set to be redesigned over the next year.

The project is supported by Belfast City Council, the Housing Executive and Charter NI.

Sam White of Charter NI said: "The community moving forward programme is a progressive process albeit given the complexity in and around re-imaging in East Belfast.

"The concept highlights the positive attitudes that lie within working class communities and further showcases the will for change."

City councillor Máire Hendron said: "I'm delighted to see new artwork on the streets of East Belfast that shows positive images the vast majority of people living in this area want to see."
