The pair, both 18, were forced from the vehicle, a red Volkswagen Golf, by two men on Mill Road on Tuesday at about 10.35pm.

Police believe the hijackers travelled to the area in a green Ford Focus, which was driven by a third man.

The Ford Focus was later involved in a collision with a white Seat at Flush Bend in north Belfast at around 10.55pm.

The driver of the Ford fled the scene on foot. The Seat's driver was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries not thought to be life threatening.

Detectives want to hear from anyone who witnessed the hijacking or collision or anyone who has any information that could assist the investigation.

Other countries use anti-hijacking tools on their cars to thwart would be theieves from stealing them. Maybe its time that the UK and Northern Ireland offered the same products.

People need to keep their doors locked. Don't give these car thieves, scum, an easy time. By the sounds of it they came from their Davis HQ in the Ford to commit this crime. Where is the action the PSNI promised after the shameful scenes on New Years?
