The 17-year-old was walking through an alleyway at Bruslee Way when the pair approached him in the early hours of Wednesday.
He was grabbed from behind and punched in the back before breaking free and running. The boy had to be taken to hospital for treatment on a stab wound to the shoulder.
Police said one of the men responsible was wearing a green coloured coat and black coloured shell bottoms, while the other had on a black coat and black shell bottoms.
The pair covered their faces with their coats as they carried out the attack.
SDLP Councillor Nichola Mallon has said that she is shocked and appalled at the assault on the young teenager.
"My immediate thoughts are with him as recovers from his injuries and no doubt the shock of the incident.
"Those who resort to violence, and particularly this sickening kind of knife attack, are beneath contempt and have nothing to offer this strong, close-knit community. I hope that the police act quickly to identify the individuals behind the attack and bring them to justice.
"I would appeal to anyone who may have heard anything to get in touch with the police and help take these dangerous thugs off our streets."
Anyone who witnessed this incident or who has further information has been asked to get in touch with the PSNI on 0845 600 8000.
