An 18-year-old man has been shot in both ankles in west Belfast.

He was taken to a laneway in the Rodney Parade area, off the Falls Road, shortly before midnight on Thursday, and then shot.

He has received hospital treatment for his injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Local Sinn Féin councillor Ciaran Beattie said: "Attacks like these are wrong and I condemn this without hesitation.

"The people behind this shooting offer nothing to the community. They must stop these actions immediately."

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
