A gunman opened fire on the teenager from a passing car as she sat in a parked vehicle on Brookview Way in Tallaght on Tuesday night.
She was taken to Tallaght Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Gardaí said the girl's body has been removed to the mortuary at Tallaght Hospital for a post mortem examination and the State Pathologist has been notified.
A statement continued: "An incident room has been set up a Tallaght Garda Station and investigating Gardai are appealing for witnesses.
"The scene is preserved pending a full technical and forensic examination."
Anyone with further information on the incident has been asked to contact police.
