It happened in the Oldpark area of Belfast just before 1am on Friday.

The driver arrived at the corner of Meyrick Park and Joanmount Park for a call when two men got into his car and pulled out a gun.

They ordered him to hand over money and he climbed out of the vehicle, but was chased by the men who punched and kicked him.

He shouted for help and they ran off down Meyrick Park towards Joanmount.

Police said the driver was taken to hospital for treatment on injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

Anyone with more information has been asked to come forward.
