The mother of Taoiseach Enda Kenny has died aged 93.

Eithne Kenny, who was born in Glencolmcille in Co Donegal, passed away on Saturday.

The Irish government has sent its condolences to the family.

Fine Gael Parliamentary Party Chairman Charlie Flanagan said: "The thought and prayers of the entire parliamentary party are with them all during this difficult time."

Tanaiste and Labour Party Leader Eamon Gilmore has also offered his sympathies, as have Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin and Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams.

It is not yet known whether the Taoiseach will still take part in the British-Irish inter-governmental summit in Dublin on Monday.
