Supermarket plan to create 500 jobs

Around 500 new jobs could be created if plans for a new Sainsbury's store in Dundonald go ahead.

If successful the 60,000 sq ft store at the disused Rolls Royce Factory on the Upper Newtownards Road could also create around 250 jobs during the construction period.

The store, complete with a petrol station and a cafe, is part of a wider plan to regenerate the entire 19 acre site.

Chris Templeman, head of property development at Sainsbury's said: "This store is part of Sainsbury's wider pledge to significantly expand our portfolio of stores in Northern Ireland.

"We have had useful discussions with Planning Service as part of Pre Application Discussions and we would encourage Planning Service to move as speedily as possible whilst recognising the economic and community benefits that this investment represents in the area in the current economic climate."

Has Norman seen how many new houses are being built in Dundonald? They wouldn't be building a store where they can't get the custom. If Norman has a gripe with the Planning Service it should be over the amount of houses being built in Dundonald on what was green belt and how the roads cannot cope with the extra traffic! The state of the main carriageway to newtownards is terrible!!!
