Shortly after 6pm on Saturday, a man entered the shop on the Ballysillan Road, brandished a knife and demanded cash from the till.

The man made his escape with a sum of cash, police said.

A short time earlier the same man, police believe, attempted to rob a newsagent on the Ballygomartin Road at around 5.30pm.

The man entered the shop, demanded money from the till and claimed to have a knife.

However, staff said they did not see a weapon and refused to hand over cash and the man left empty handed.

Police have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the incidents, or who may have information to contact them.
