It happened at the business premises on Ballycolman Avenue on Wednesday at 7.30pm.

He made the female staff member empty the till before he made off with the contents along Beechmount Avenue.

The thief was described as being about 5ft 8ins tall and was wearing grey hoody with the hood up, a white scarf covering his mouth and grey tracksuit bottoms.

SDLP councillor Patsy Kelly described the incident as "sinister" and "very worrying".

He said the staff member was left badly shaken.

"This is the third robbery in that particular location in 18 months, which is very worrying. People out doing a day's work should not be subjected to such terror. It is despicable.

"I am urging anyone who saw the male entering, or leaving the shop, or who knows anything about what happened, to contact police immediately."

Police are appealing for information.
