Lance Corporal Richard Farrell is accused of killing Cpl Geoffrey McNeill in Shropshire on 8 March this year.

The body of Cpl McNeill, from the 1st Battalion The Royal Irish Regiment, was found dead at the accommodation block at Clive Barracks in Tern Hill.

The 32-year-old was from Ballymoney, Co Antrim and was educated in nearby Coleraine.

A court spokesman said Farrell, who is also based at the barracks, entered his not guilty plea at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Friday and will face trial at Birmingham Crown Court on 29 September.

The trial is expected to run for up to four weeks.
