Soldier denies barracks murder

A 23-year-old soldier has pleaded not guilty to murdering a Northern Irish corporal found dead at Army barracks in England.

Lance Corporal Richard Farrell is accused of killing Cpl Geoffrey McNeill in Shropshire on 8 March this year.The body of Cpl McNeill, from the 1st Battalion The Royal Irish Regiment, was found dead at the accommodation block at Clive Barracks in Tern Hill.The 32-year-old was from Ballymoney, Co Antrim and was educated in nearby Coleraine.A court spokesman said Farrell, who is also based at the barracks, entered his not guilty plea at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Friday and will face trial at Birmingham Crown Court on 29 September.The trial is expected to run for up to four weeks.
