At Belfast Magistrates' Court on Saturday, Constable Mullan said he believed he could connect both 48-year-old Thomas Charnley and the teenager, who cannot be identified because of his age.

Charnley, from Thornhill Drive faces a single count of disorderly behaviour, while the schoolboy is accused of disorderly behaviour, assaulting and resisting police, obstructing a road and possessing class B cannabis on Friday 18 January.

Disorder broke out in the Main Street area of Ballyclare following a flag protest.

The offences relate to disturbances in The Square at Ballyclare where snowballs were thrown at police officers and objecting to a bail application for Charnley, Constable Mullan described how despite numerous warnings, he tried to force his way through police lines and cursed at officers.

District Judge Ken Nixon released the pair on bail to appear again next Friday and ordered them to observe a curfew, report to police three times per week and to stay at least 500 metres away from any protest or demonstration.

Utv you should be ashamed!! Were you actually in court to hear all the evidence, the arrests were for a lot more than throwing snowballs. If you are going to report news then please report it accurately,

They were blocking the road & pelting folk in the cars they had stopped, with their faces covered up!!! Very intimadating for adults and children who were terrified in my car! They were not playing!!! It is ok protesting peacefully & proudly but the minute you cover your face & start trouble you have lost the fight!!

Ballyclare protest forced motorists to wait for hours in icy conditions. Snowballs..no..iceballs were thrown at drivers. They werent schoolboys either. They attacked the normal police. I dont think they knew the riot boys were in town.

I think the police are over reacting to a couple of kids throwing snowballs!! If the union jack the flag of the country is being took down then the tri colours on top of flats in belfast should be removed!!
