Chief Superintendent Harry Breen and Superintendent Bob Buchanan were ambushed and shot dead by the IRA as they returned home from a meeting with Garda in Dundalk in 1989.

Judge Peter Smithwick has been examining the circumstances surrounding the murders.

It is expected the report will be published in the coming days once the Irish director of public prosecutions has examined the conclusions for legal reasons.
