A man and woman are in a serious condition in hospital after being stabbed in the Ballyduff area of Newtownabbey.

Six people were injured in the multiple stabbing in the Ballyduff Gardens area at around 4pm on Monday.

Police remained at the scene on Monday night, with a cordon in place.

The man and woman are described as being seriously ill.

A NI Ambulance Service spokesman said that all six have been taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast for treatment.

He added that they understood the stabbings happened in properties in close proximity to one another.

A neighbour told UTV that she believed the stabbings were a domestic incident, which she described as "very shocking."

"I actually feel quite sick about it," she said.

"To think that was going on over there... and we could have done something about it."

A police spokesperson said:"An investigation into the circumstances is underway but police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident at this stage."

There are no further details.
