Dissident republicans are being blamed after shots were fired at police in Fermanagh and policing board headquaters were attacked in Belfast.
On Saturday night officers came under attack and returned fire.
There were no reports of any injuries but the Police Ombudsman Al Hutchinson was informed.
"On the ground the feeling is that this was some form of dissident attack, the people of Garrison are relieved that no-one has been hurt or lives lost in this incident," SDLP MLA for Fermanagh and South Tyrone Tommy Gallagher said.
Earlier in the evening, a car ignited close to the Policing Board headquarters in Belfast.
Army bomb disposal officers were called after the vehicle broke through a barrier into the Clarendon Dock at around 7.30pm on Saturday evening.
Nobody was hurt and no damage was caused except to the rear of the car. Two men were seen making off in another car.
Police are also investigating after another vehicle was found alight in Hillman Street in the city and are not ruling out a link.
