The windscreen and back window of the vehicle were damaged in the attack, which happened at Friel Close, just off Aileach Road, on Saturday at about 1am.

No-one was injured.

John Boyle, SDLP councillor for the area, has condemned those behind the shooting.

"This was a reckless and thoughtless attack in a residential area.

"It seems to have been a very sinister attempt to intimidate those living in the area and somebody could have been very seriously hurt or worse in the attack," he added.

"I would appeal to anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area to waste no time in coming forward and assisting the police with their enquiries."

Police investigating the attack are trying to establish a motive and are appealing for any witnesses - or anyone with information - to come forward.
