Seven people have been injured, including two young children, after a car ploughed into a crowd in South Belfast.

Those injured were at a bonfire site at Coolfin Street at 1am on Monday when the incident happened.

The two children remain in hospital although their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The car involved is believed to have been silver coloured and police are urging the driver to come forward.

Democratic Unionist councillor Ruth Patterson said the community was stunned by what had happened.

"There was a scene of utter chaos afterwards," she said.

"People were lying on the road screaming and there were nine ambulances there helping the injured."

The incident in Coolfin Street off the Donegall Road happened as nationalist rioters and police clashed at the nearby Broadway roundabout.

I disagree craig, st patricks day can be enjoyed by both sides of the community with the events and parades happening in the city centre during the day. There is no burning of the union jacks or other flags at these events unlike the 11th July which is held at night time and into the early hours of the morning when children should be in bed not watching their parents and members of their community destroy their neighbourhoods with burning wood etc. I doubt very much anyone will agree with your statement that the bonfires are not anti-social. i think anti social is the perfect word to describe them. Fire brigades time and resources wasted each year when someones house could be burning to the ground in a serious call out. Who actually cleans up after these bonfires?
