The 32-year-old man was struck by the black Range Rover in the William Street area at around 10.15am on Sunday.

SDLP councillor for the area Declan O'Loan expressed his sympathy to the man's family.

"The entire community was very shocked to hear the news of this tragic accident as they gathered at church at midday today.

"It is a terrible thing that a young man should lose his life in this way," he added.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident to contact them.
