It happened on the Antrim Road in the early hours of Sunday, close to a PSNI station.Police said one of the men was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries which are currently being described as critical.Meanwhile two men have been arrested over the incident - a 31-year-old and a 23-year-old - and they are assisting police with their inquiries.Police have asked anyone who saw what happened at 4.50am to get in touch.Detective Chief Inspector Alan Little said: "Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact us in CID in Antrim Road Police Station on 0845 600 8000."The attack has been condemned by the SDLP's Pat Convery. He said: "This kind of savage attack is completely unacceptable. My thoughts and prayers are with one of the victims who has been rushed to hospital and is in a critical condition."No family should wake up to a knock on the door by police telling them that their son is lying in a critical condition in hospital after being brutally beaten. Those who are behind this callous attack are beneath contempt and will be rejected by this community."I would urge anyone who may have heard or seen anything suspicious to contact the PSNI at Antrim Road police station and help to bring these thugs to justice."Attack happened in the early hrs of this morning. Understood victim rushed to hospital. Waiting on condition update.— Sara Moore (@saramoore_utv) February 23, 2014
