A security alert in Londonderry has ended with police declaring it a hoax.

Police and army bomb experts attended the alert in the Crannog Park area of Strathfoyle following the discovery of a suspicious object at about midday on Saturday.

A number of homes were evacuated during the alert which lasted for around five hours. Residents have since been allowed to return to their homes.

There are no further details.
