The victim was attacked by a gang of four men in the car park of a hotel on the Antrim Road shortly before 1am on Tuesday.

He sustained a fractured cheekbone and had two teeth knocked out.

Antrim Alliance Councillor Alan Lawther has condemned the sectarian attack, saying it sickened him.

"There should be no place in our society for such an incident.

"This was a vicious assault carried out by callous individuals who have no regards for the well-being of others.

"My thoughts are with this teenager following what must have been an horrific incident. I hope he will be able to make a swift recovery from his injuries," he said.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed what happened.
