A teenager has appeared in court again in the Irish Republic charged with strangling a Dublin schoolgirl.

Jonathan Byrne, 18, from Lohunda Downs, is being held on remand charged with the murder of 12-year-old Michaela Davis.

Her body was found in undergrowth beside the Royal Canal in Porterstown last Saturday afternoon.

Her funeral service took place at St Mochta's Church, Porterstown, on Thursday.

During the very brief hearing, Byrne's lawyers sought an adjournment for two weeks.

The judge remanded him in custody to appear again on 24 September.
