Road Safety Minister Alex Attwood has received a preliminary report into a crash involving a bus carrying school children and a car in Finaghy.

The incident happened amid rush hour traffic at around 8.50am on Friday, on Finaghy Road North on the outskirts of west Belfast.

A number of pupils were taken to hospital and are being treated for shock and minor injuries, a police spokesperson said. The wall of a nearby house was also destroyed.

Mr Attwood said the incident is under investigation.

"I first wish to convey my concern at the crash and for those who were injured, and for all who will have been shocked and upset," said the SDLP minister.

"I have received a preliminary report in relation to the crash. Clearly all the relevant authorities will investigate and assess what happened.

"On the far side of this, and given some concerns that have arisen recently with buses carrying school children, I will clearly assess if there are any issues that fall to DOE or DVA."

The road remains open to traffic.
