A man who was sacked by Asda after allegedly making comments about the playing of the Sash has been reinstated at the store.

Billy Hunter was dismissed after claims he said that two people, who were playing music in the company car park, should play the Sash instead.

Protests were held outside Asda on the Shore Road on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

In a statement released to UTV, Asda confirmed Mr Hunter is to be brought back to work.

"Tuesday's independent appeal in front of a senior Asda representative, re-instated William after he expressed regret for the unintentional offence caused by the words he used when speaking to customers at the store.

"Asda is not a political company that ever takes sides. It works hard to foster a welcoming environment for all colleagues and customers, whatever their backgrounds."

The statement continued: "Both Asda, William and his colleagues are now looking forward to drawing a line under what happened and getting back to the business of serving customers.

"We sincerely thank customers and colleagues for their patience in the past few days."

Tommy I see what you are saying and your point would be taken This would be a very normal point in most societies But I do not believe there would be pickets outside a store in other countries However is NOT a normal society It is N Ireland where just wearing the wrong coloured clothing can have serios repercussions. I realize that the incident in ASDA was small but only in N Ireland would there have been tribal support. That is the way here What we must remember is that the so called supporters were voicing slogans of a sectarian nature to some store employees. As the saying goes"Only in N Ireland!? As a matter

Tommy Atkins, you're missing the point. The support was for a clearly unfair and ridiculous sacking, not for an individual. I certainly don't support what this character has done in the past, nor any of the murderers we have in government. All terrorists should have paid the price for their actions, including this guy in Asda. That doesn't make Asda's decision right, though, and the person who made the complaint is still a bigot

Only in that cesspool called N Ireland does a depraved scumbag murderer receive support You all need to hang your heads in shame

your right tommy cause talking irish makes someone equivelant to a secterian murderer terroist, get real its the 2nd most spoken language on the island of ireland where you heard it

Has this become a pointless discussion? Polarised views have overtaken the facts, and that is the 'sacking' was over the top at best, disgraceful at worst. I was in Asda in dwonpatrick this week, and heard a teller speaking Irish with a customer. Highly offensive. I should go back and demand that person be sacked on the spot for using a political language in order to intimidate any non nationalists. Or is that just ridiculous? Of course it is, and it's the same principle. Abandon all religion and join the party
