The airline announced it was closing its base at George Best Belfast City Airport in August.
Airline boss Michael O'Leary gave up waiting for a runway extension which he said he needed to operate new routes to the Continent.
He claimed that the company's withdrawal could cost the tourism industry this year one million lost passengers and up to 1000 jobs.
However Mr O'Leary has made it clear that he will be back if the runway is lengthened.
Ryanair which will continue to operate flights out of City of Derry airport admitted its Belfast base is profitable.
