Around five vehicles - including cars and lorries - are thought to have been involved in the crash which happened on the M3 at Lagan Bridge during the afternoon.

It left both Bangor-bound carriageways towards the Sydenham bypass blocked for a time, but police say the road is now clear.

Ambulances were sent to the scene and it is understood a number of people suffered minor injuries in the crash.

A PSNI spokesman had earlier been warning of long delays as far back as Fortwilliam.

Aye Martin, that's how it works right enough - no point gathering enough information to investigate the cause, lets just take a few snaps on the aul iphone, brush it out of the way and get those not involved on their way home. Think the only joker here is you lad.

this was a complete joke, the whole of belfast comes to a standstill for hours.our emergency services are a joke we must be the only country in the world that has to put up with major injuries yet the road cant just be cleared and traffic builds up for over 2 and a half hours, at least.all it would have taken is to check everyone was ok. then take pictures and then move them out of the way. job done.

This accident was completely caused by rubbernecking onto the other carriageway, which had traffic backed up due to a lorry shedding part of its load. If drivers paid more attention to their own driving and less about something on other side of road, there'd be fewer accidents. Thankfully, no one is seriously injured, but it goes to show exactly what a moment of inattention can do.
