There could be a risk of localised flooding as showers sweep across the region on Friday evening and into Saturday morning.
A yellow alert has been issued by the Met Office.
Forecasters explained: "Rain arriving on Friday is expected to turn heavy at times, especially during the evening and on Saturday morning.
"The public are advised to be aware of the risk of localised flooding."
Meanwhile police have issued advice to road users amid reports that surface water has led to hazardous conditions on the M2 motorway.
A statement warned: "Motorists are advised to exercise caution on the motorway - slow down, use your dipped headlights and keep a safe distance from the car in front."
The rain warning covers areas to the east of NI, including much of counties Down and Antrim, and will remain in place until 8pm on Saturday.
