The item was found just before 5pm on Sunday, forcing the closure of the Ormeau Road close to the bridge.

Diversions were in place at the Ormeau Embankment, Stranmillis Embankment and at Delhi Street.

Army bomb experts were called to the scene to examine the object.

Roads have now reopened. The security alert is over.
