An Anglican clergyman from Belfast is teaming up with a Rector from Dublin as they step out of the pulpit and rev their way around Ireland for charity.

The duo ditched their dog collars and pulled on their leathers on Friday, setting off on an epic 1,500 mile journey.

Rev Nigel Kirkpatrick of Gilnahirk and Rev Andrew McCroskery from St Bartholomew's and Christ Church, Leeson Park will pull up their motorbikes at all 30 Church of Ireland cathedrals from Belfast to Cork as they criss-cross over the island.

"It can be quite gruelling," admits Rev Kirkpatrick.

"Andrew and I are passionate about motor cycling and we wanted to do something that encompassed our hobby but also did some good as well."

It's all in the name of charity as the pair will be raising money for United Society, who work at home and also in the country with the highest rate of HIV infection in the world.

"It is a charity I suppose that I have supported for a long time," said Rec McCroskery.

"It's something that I think is very worthwhile and I think the fact that they are able to concentrate on Swaziland and Ireland means that they are able to make a very real and lasting difference to people's lives."

Far from Hell's Angels, the revving Reverends hope to be back in Belfast in 10 days, having helped out the charity along the way.

"It is fantastic," said Lisa Chambers from United Society. "It's great that the boys volunteered to do this. It's lovely that they are doing something that they can enjoy and doing something worthwhile for us as well."

The pair are welcoming anyone to join their very own band of bikers along the way.
