A dissident republican prisoner in Maghaberry has agreed to come off a 42-day hunger strike.

Liam Hannaway, 40, is serving a 10-year sentence for possessing explosives and ammunition.

It is understood that Mr Hannaway was protesting over being held in the special segregation unit of the prison rather than on a wing with other dissidents.

He wants to be moved into the republican wing of the prison.

He was moved to the hospital wing of the jail on Monday night.

Following a meeting between members of his family and the Northern Ireland Prison Service on Tuesday night, Hannaway decided to end his protest.
