In white, champagne and gold, they have been specifically chosen for this exhibition as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

They were all made to be worn by the Queen for formal state occasions and are normally kept at Buckingham Palace or Balmoral.

The display, which runs until the end of this month, opens on Saturday.

Secretary of State Owen Paterson welcomed it, saying: "In this special Diamond Jubilee Year, it is a great privilege to display a number of Her Majesty's glamorous gowns for the public touring Hillsborough Castle to admire during the month of August.

"Visitors will also have the opportunity to view other exclusive permanent Jubilee exhibits including two specially commissioned paintings of Hillsborough Castle, a Bronze Bust by Alexander Stoddart of "Ossian" the legendary Scottish- Irish bard and the new Jubilee Garden."

HM does look glamorous in those white / champagne gowns she wears at banquets and the State Opening. Wish I could get over Hillsborough Castle to see this exhibition!

Sounds like a really "must see" event.Just the thing to do after spending several hours watching paint dry.Afterwards they could attach some red white and blue dresses to the back ends of the red arrows, fly over Stormont and the Giant's Causeway, then release the dresses over the homes of some poor people. We love that kind of thing over here.(Apparently).I am sure the army could be drafted in to play some role as well, when they finish their stint as Olympic seat fillers. They love that kind of thing too.
