The man has been named by the Northern Ireland Prison Service as Patrick Farren.

The 58-year-old, who was serving a five year sentence, was found in a collapsed state in his cell in the early hours of Tuesday.

Efforts to revive him were not successful and he was pronounced dead just before 3.45am.

The PSNI, Coroner and Prisoner Ombudsman have been notified and investigations are ongoing.

His family have been informed.

Prison Service Director General Sue McAllister said: "I would extend my sympathy and that of the Northern Ireland Prison Service to the family of Mr Farren.

"This is a tragedy and my thoughts are with them at this difficult time."
