It was the first time Pope Francis has met with abuse victims since his election last year.
Six survivors - two each from Ireland, Britain and Germany - were invited to see the Pontiff at his private residence at the Vatican on Monday, after attending a private mass.
The outcome of the meeting will be watched closely by victim support groups who had criticised Pope Francis for not moving sooner.
The Pope has previously urged the Catholic Church to "act decisively" against clerical child sex abuse.
