Two police officers came across a fire in a house at 2.30am on Sunday in the Hillhall Road area.

They forced entry to the house and rescued the 48-year-old man and two-year-old child.

The man and child were unharmed in the incident but were checked over by an ambulance at the scene.

The fire is not being treated as suspicious.

Praising his officers, Chief Inspector Darrin Jones, Lisburn Area Commander, said: "I am convinced that the brave and swift actions of these two officers helped to avert what could have been a terrible situation.

"This incident goes to show the dedication that police in Lisburn have to protecting the people in their community every day of the year."
