Four shots were fired at Dinah Henry's home on Eliza Street Terrace in the markets area shortly after 9pm.
"One of my sons was able to make his way out but my other son froze, he couldn't speak," she told UTV.
Her 15-year-old grandson was also in the home and escaped unharmed.
She told UTV they were lucky to be alive.
"He said 'you'll be ok granny, you'll be ok'. And I still didn't know if my other son was murdered or not for it took him a long long time to answer.
"Last night was a murder attempt on my sons and grandchildren."
Ms Henry says she no longer wants to live in the house after a number of incidents.
"Please (let it) stop, I just want to live in peace," she added.
SDLP councillor Pat McCarthy said: "This is a worrying development that within the space of a weekend we have an elaborate hoax bomb attack and then a gun attack.
"People will be watching to see what the police are doing about this."
Also on Sunday night, shots were reportedly fired at a property in the Carnbane Gardens area of Newry at around 11.20pm.
The house was vacant at the time and no one was injured.
Local UUP MLA Danny Kennedy said: "I would appeal for anyone who knows anything about this incident to come forward immediately.
"We simply cannot have people going around Newry shooting at houses, and it is important that this is incident is dealt with as quickly as possible in order to re-assure the local community."
Anyone with information or who may have witnessed either incident is asked to contact PSNI.
