Peter Clark, 18, is accused of trying to rob cash from a man in the greater Belfast area earlier this month.

A second man, Mark McClean, 26, of Barn Mills, Carrickfergus, Co Antrim, faces the same charge.

Clark is the son of Superintendent Muir Clark, who has headed up the PSNI's Road Policing branch.

No further details of the alleged attempted robbery were disclosed during a brief hearing at Belfast Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

However, the judge did impose a ban on reporting where Peter Clark lives.

The reporting restrictions prohibit the publication of any details relating to his address, a Courts Service spokesman confirmed.

Both defendants were released on continuing bail to appear again on 28 March.

Sensationaliam at its best!---The fact that this mans father is a prominent figure is what m makes us read the column. Otherwie we would quickly skip by it. It is the same all over the world

Disgraceful that the father was named here just because of his chosen occupation. This would not happen in any other armed robbery case, the criminal would be named with no mention of their parents or if they were a binman, dentist or teacher.

Why is this guy's father being named? Did he do anything wrong? Will it now reflect upon the punishment handed down to the young Clark? Really the man is 18 years old. No longer a minor. He is not his father's responsibility now
