Officers were called to the Strand Road shop shortly before 11pm on Monday evening.
They cautioned the 29-year-old and assisted with a large crowd, understood to have been made up of more than 300 people.
It comes after JJB Sports announced on Monday that it is closing 10 of its stores across Northern Ireland with immediate effect after going into administration.
