Police received a report that three shots were fired at a car parked in the Southend Park area at around 4am.

No one was believed to have been in the vehicle at the time but damage was caused to the body.

"As police removed the vehicle for further investigation, it is believed that a number of youths threw bottles at police in the area," a PSNI spokesperson said.

"It is not believed that any officers were injured during the removal of the vehicle."

Police have asked anyone with any information about this assault to contact CID in Strand Road Police Station on the new non-emergency number 101.
