Pipe bomb found in Ballymoney alert

A viable pipe bomb has been found during a security alert in Ballymoney, Co Antrim.

Army bomb experts carried out a controlled explosion at the scene on the Ballymena Road on Monday morning, after reports of a suspicious object close to residential premises.A number of homes were evacuated while the device was dealt with. The object has been taken away for further forensic examinations. All roads have now reopened and residents have been allowed to return to their properties.DUP North Antrim MLA Mervyn Storey visited the scene and hit out at those responsible for the disruption to local people."Unfortunately, it would seem that there are some who think they are above the law as there have been a number of incidents recently," he said."However I hope that the police can track down those who are responsible and that they are brought to justice."Police are appealing for anyone who noticed suspicious activity in the area to contact them.Army now finishing up at Ballymoney alert. Have taken away what sources tell me is a suspected pipe bomb. pic.twitter.com/HKGyttvpQ5— Paul Reilly (@Paul_UTV) June 30, 2014
