Pipe bomb found in Ballymena stadium

A stock car racing event held at the Ballymena Showgrounds was cancelled when a viable pipe bomb was discovered in the car park of the venue on Friday night.

The stadium was evacuated after the device was found.
Army bomb squad officers, who were tasked to the scene, took the pipe bomb away for further examination after it was made safe.
A spokesman for the PSNI said: "The security alert caused considerable disruption to the event at the showgrounds this evening which had to be cancelled when the showgrounds were evacuated."
Around 500 spectators at the Ballymena Raceway were affected.
The security alert is over.The area around the stadium has been reopened.
