Police and army bomb experts carried out an operation following report of suspicious activity in the area of the Letterkenny Road.

A controlled explosion was carried out on a device and a number of items were taken away for further forensic investigation.

"At this stage it is believed to have been a viable small pipe bomb type device," a PSNI spokesperson explained.

The Letterkenny Road and Braehead Road have reopened after they were closed on Friday afternoon while the operation was ongoing.

HGVs were diverted away from the lower deck of the Craigavon Bridge.
