It caused scorch damage to the front door of the house in the Fergleen Mews area at about 2am on Sunday.

A man, woman and two young children escaped unhurt.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.

Sinn Féin councillor Elisha McCallion said that she is relieved no-one was injured in the attack.

"The house contained two adults and two children and anyone who uses petrol to attack a home in the middle of the night when families are in bed need to realise there is a possibility of fatalities.

"The people who carried out this attack need to understand that the entire community is sickened by it and will offer their support and help to the family involved," she continued.

"I would appeal to anyone who has information on this attack to bring it forward to the PSNI immediately."
