The pensioner was the driver of a red Peugeot 406 which crashed on the Oughtagh Road in the city on Tuesday afternoon.
No other vehicle was involved and the woman was alone in the car.
Police investigating the crash appealed for any witnesses to contact them.
A spokeswoman said that at the request of the woman's family she was not being publicly identified.
The woman was the 35th to die on Northern Ireland's roads so far this year, just up on the same time last year when the the toll was 32.
