A man in his 70s has been assaulted by thieves, who stole his car in Derry.

The victim was driving in the Bonds Hill area on Monday night at around 8.30pm when two men approached his car, assaulting him.

He was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries, which are not thought to be life threatening.

His car was found in a carpark in the city soon after and two men, 21 and 24, were arrested by police.

Both men were arrested on suspicion of hijacking, grievous bodily harm with intent and other offences. They are currently assisting police with their enquiries.
