Fire and Rescue Service received report of a blaze on the seventh floor of the hospital building at 9.45pm on Tuesday.
Patients on the seventh and eighth floor were evacuated behind fire doors while firefighters tackled the small electrical fire.
Around 30 crew members attended the fire.
NIFRS District Commander Barry McDowell said that although "fires are never simple in a high-rise building", the operation was "well managed between fire and rescue and hospital staff".
After two hours the fire was made safe and patients on the eighth floor returned to their wards, however patients from the seventh floor had to be relocated after moderate smoke damage was caused.
