It happened in the Beechmount Crescent area at around 8pm on Tuesday.

The victim in his 30s was shot once in the right leg on the street.

He was taken to hospital, treated for his injuries and later discharged.

Police said the attack was carried out by "persons unknown". Anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area or has further information has been asked to pass it on.

SDLP Lower Falls Councillor Colin Keenan said vigilantism and violence were never justified.

"People need to put their faith in the rule of law and not take believe they have the right to judge people and administer violence.

"History has shown us paramilitary style shootings did not solve social issues in the past and will not solve them now," he added.
