Two men have been arrested over the attempted theft of an ATM machine at a filling station in Co Armagh.

The army bomb squad had to be called to the business premises at Annareagh Road, Hamiltonsbawn in the early hours of Thursday morning after police discovered a suspect device close to the ATM.

Officers attended the scene after receiving reports that a loud bang had been heard in the area.

Army bomb experts made the device safe and removed it for further examination.

A black Audi car was found abandoned on Gosford Road, Markethill a short time later.

The men, both aged 37, are currently in police custody.
